President
Stinnett to Speak at Upcoming Conference
VJJA President Beth Stinnett will be among
the speakers at the University of Richmond's upcoming
conference:
the 12th Annual Juvenile Law & Education Conference: In re Gault at 40: Back to the Future. She will lead a
workshop on Advocating for Detention Alternatives. Stinnett
is employed at the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice's
administrative headquarters in Richmond. As part of her role, she
mananges the state's Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative
(JDAI). To learn more about this

Colleen French
Named Superintendent NRVJDH
Ms. Colleen French has accepted the
position of Superintendent of the New River Valley Detention
Home
in Christiansburg. She was previously the Assistant Superintendent
of the Roanoke
Detention Center. In 2006, French was the
recipient of VJJA's Meritorious Award in the Area
of
Administration. She serves on the Board of Directors in the capacity
of Director of Public Relations.
Jim Cornett Tapped As 28th CSU Supervisor
Jim Cornett, previously a Senior Probation Officer with the 28th District Court Service Unit in
Abingdon has been promoted to CSU Supervisor. A past member of the Board of Directors,
Jim has been an active member of VJJA since 1973. Serving twice as District Chair, he has
also chaired committees, to include the awards committee. Employed in the juvenile justice
field for more than 30 years, in 1985 Jim received VJJA’s Meritorious Award in the Area of Probation.
Susan Farmer Appointed to
District Post Ms. Susan
Farmer has been appointed to fill the unexpired term of Blue Ridge
District Secretary. She joins Robert Foster, Chair, Anthony
Drakeford, Vice Chair and Ben Morgan, Treasurer, to round out the
Blue Ridge Distrct leadership. Farmer is a Probation Officer for the
23rd Court Service Unit in Salem.
