Bon Air JCC Administration Receives Director’s Award for Excellence
Because of their exemplary leadership, outstanding analytical and problem solving ability, and highest possible standard in execution of their daily responsibilities, the Bon Air Administrative Team—Superintendent Linda McWilliams, Assistant Superintendent Fred Lucas, Assistant Superintendent Joyce Holman, Assistant Superintendent Michelle Jenkins, Human Resource Manager Nicole Milner, and Business Manager Marjorie Walker—has received the Department of Juvenile Justice’s 2007 Director’s Award for Excellence. The team has consistently gone above and beyond to support and work towards DJJ’s mission and goals. During the performance cycle, the team successfully executed and supported implementation of several division projects and initiatives to include: management of a ward population that increased by twenty-five percent above funding and staffing levels; development and implementation of a sight and sound separation plan for females age 18 and older in compliance with federal regulations; development of a peer empowerment program for females age 18 and older; and implementation of an expanded employee recognition program. The administrative team has diligently monitored daily operations to ensure consistent compliance with standards. In addition, the team has consistently worked to demonstrate professionalism and accountability, while recognizing individual contributions of staff. The staff recognition program was expanded to include On the Spot Awards, an Employee of the Month program, and a quarterly newsletter, the Bon Air Newslink. In addition to the team’s regular duties, under the direction and leadership of the team the facility has reached out to the community, partnering with the city of Richmond to support Hurricane Katrina victims, volunteering at Norrell Elementary School to assist with flood victims of Battery Park, and dedicating over $2000 to the Barfield & Company Foundation for the Performing Arts (in memory of a former co-worker, Latisha Barfield).
