Bermingham

Having stepped down at the end of 2005 after serving two terms as VJJA’s President, Bermingham will remain a voting member of the Board of Directors as Immediate Past President, and will serve as an advisor to President Stinnett. He has been actively involved with VJJA for many years.  Prior to being elected President in December 2001, he served as the association’s Legislative Liaison for three terms and as the Northern District’s Secretary for one term.  He has also been an active member of the conference planning committee for more than a decade.  Currently working out of the Office of the County Executive as Fairfax County’s first Gang Prevention Coordinator, Bermingham is charged with coordinating the county’s overall response to gangs and gang activity through prevention, suppression and intervention programs and initiatives.  Prior to assuming that post in February 2005, Bermingham was employed by the Fairfax County Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court for 18 years, working in the areas of detention, residential services, probation and administration.  He was also a high school football and track coach for 15 years and a volunteer basketball coach for 3 years.  Bermingham holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Marymount University and a master’s degree in public administration from George Mason University.  In 2000, he was recognized by his peers and presented VJJA’s Meritorious Service Award in the field of Court Services.  He and his wife Kathy, their four children (Mary, Maggie, Kate and Joe), their German Shepherd, Jasmine, and a cat named Quincy, make their home in Fairfax County.  Bermingham enjoys spending his free time watching his children grow and participating in sports and other activities.
