Winning Nomination

Community Service Award 2005

This recipient is active in several organizations.  He is the president of his Church, and has served on the Vestry.  He’s also active in his church’s outreach programs to the needy.  He serves on the board for Oasis Social Ministry Soup Kitchen (feeds the homeless).  He volunteers several times a year, for a week at a time, to serve meals to the homeless.  He coordinates the SHARE Holiday Basket program.  In this program, he raises funds and organizes holiday food baskets for needy families who are referred by VJJA members and church members.

He uses his vacation time to volunteer and coordinate activities for a week long camp in June for kids who are HIV positive.  He also assists in obtaining food and services from his church for needy families on an ongoing basis.

This recipient went to college at Old Dominion University.  He came to work at the Tidewater Regional Group Home Commission 15 years ago as a counselor at Chesapeake Boys Home.  He went on to become director at Centreville Group Home and is presently director at Westhaven Crisis Center in Portsmouth (a group home for at risk males).

In his spare time he has started his own business, Liquid Lessons.  He offers individual and group canoe and kayak lessons.  The business also includes rock climbing, ropes initiatives, and team building activities.  He is married with a 15 year old daughter and 18 year son.

In addition to all of the above, he has been Chairman of the Tidewater District of the Virginia Juvenile Justice Association (VJJA) for the past 6 years.  His infectious enthusiasm and positive outlook for all he undertakes makes PAUL GREGGS most deserving of this award!
